The history and the artistic values of the quinta of Monserrate ,designed by De Visme, lived in by William Beckford and named by LordByron, is a reference in the international framework of Romanticismand form part of the cultural heritage of Sintra classified by UNESCOas a Cultural Landscape and World Heritage Site. BeckfordÆs worldlylife, his restless spirit and, of course, his fortune, enable him toset up many places and homes. But it is felt that none of themreceived a posthumous evocation so worthy, creative and eloquent asthat which Sir Francis Cook had the merit of designing and supportingin the second half of the nineteenth century, in making Monserrate one of the most beautiful places in Portugal.
